Huntington Beach Deadbolt Installation Specialist

A deadbolt is only as strong as its installation. The throw needs to extend a full inch into the strike plate, the strike plate needs 3-inch screws reaching the structural framing behind the jamb, and the bore hole needs to match the backset of 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches. Most deadbolt failures after  a break-in are installation failures, not hardware failures. A Grade 1 deadbolt rated to ANSI/BHMA A156.36, correctly installed, is one of the most effective physical security measures  available for a residential door.  Golden Locks, Inc. has installed deadbolts in Huntington Beach since 2008: post-war homes in Bolsa Chica, vacation rentals near the HB pier, rental units along Beach Blvd, beachfront properties in Huntington Harbour, and commercial entries in the Gothard corridor. We assess door and frame before recommending hardware, install with correct anchor screws, and verify the throw under load. CA Locksmith License #LCO4446. Price confirmed before we start.

Deadbolt Installation Services in Huntington Beach

We install, replace, and rekey every type of deadbolt for residential, rental, and commercial doors across HB

New Deadbolt Installation

Moving into a new Huntington Beach home and the previous owner’s keys are unaccounted for: this is the most common deadbolt call we handle, and the most important one to get right before you move in. We assess door prep, select the correct grade for your door type and neighbourhood, and install a new deadbolt with a reinforced strike plate anchored with 3- inch structural screws

Deadbolt Replacement

A worn, stiff, or damaged deadbolt that requires multiple attempts to lock or fails to extend its full bolt throw is not providing the protection it was rated for. We remove the existing hardware, assess the bore and backset, and install a replacement that engages cleanly and meets ANSI Grade 2 or Grade 1 specification for the door’s risk profile.

High-Security Deadbolt Upgrade

ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts are tested to 250,000 key cycles and a 10-strike hammer test, significantly stronger than the Grade 3 hardware that most HB homes came with from the builder. We install Schlage B62N, Kwikset 980, Medeco, and MulT-Lock deadbolts rated to BHMA A156.36 and UL 437 with pick-resistant, drillresistant, and bump-resistant cylinders

Double-Cylinder Deadbolt Installation

Doors with glass panels or sidelights within arm’s reach of the thumb-turn need a double- cylinder deadbolt; a single-cylinder lock on that door can be defeated by breaking the glass and reaching inside. We install double-cylinder deadbolts and walk through the fire exit protocol before leaving: a key on a hook at adult height inside the door, always reachable

Deadbolt Rekey Service

Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration of your existing deadbolt so old keys stop working and your new key is the only one that opens the cylinder; the right choice when a tenant moves out, a key is lost, or access needs to be revoked without replacing the hardware. We carry pin kits for Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Medeco, and all major brands and can rekey an entire property to one master key on the same visit

Coastal-Rated Deadbolt Installation

Standard deadbolts with brass or zinc finishes corrode faster than expected in the salt air environment within a mile of the HB shoreline; pins seize, the throw becomes stiff, and the exterior cylinder corrodes within two to three years. We specify 316L marine-grade stainless or ANSI 619 satin nickel finishes for Huntington Harbour, Seacliff, and PCH beachfront properties

How We Install Deadbolts in Huntington Beach

Three things have to be right for a deadbolt to work the way it was rated. Here is how we handle each.  STEP : Door and Frame Assessment First  We measure the backset (2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches), check the existing bore hole diameter, and inspect the door frame and jamb for structural integrity before recommending any hardware. A Grade 1 deadbolt in a hollow jamb still fails under a single kick; the frame matters as much as the lock.  STEP 2  : Right Grade for the Right Door  We recommend ANSI Grade 2 for most HB exterior doors and Grade 1 for high-risk applications: street-facing doors, vacation rentals, and doors next to glass panels. Not every door needs the highest rating; we tell you which ones do STEP 3  : Installation, Strike Plate, Load Test  We install the deadbolt, secure the strike plate with 3-inch structural screws, and test the throw under door-closing pressure to confirm the full one-inch extension and clean engagement. The job is not done until the lock works correctly under load

What You Should Do?

  • Have a licensed locksmith assess the door frame before installation. The frame and jamb  determine whether the bolt can withstand a forced-entry kick; a weak jamb fails before the  lock does
  • Ask for the ANSI grade rating on any deadbolt we recommend. Grade 1 is the strongest residential rating; Grade 2 is appropriate for most HB exterior doors. Grade 3 is not suitable for any exterior door
  • Rekey any time someone with access moves out: former tenants, contractors, or housekeepers. Rekeying costs less than $75
  • Confirm the bolt extends the full one-inch throw into the strike plate; anything shorter means the deadbolt is not engaging at rated strength.

What You Should Avoid?

  • Do not install a deadbolt yourself on a shifted, warped, or previously damaged door. An improperly bored hole or misaligned strike plate leaves the deadbolt unable to engage, and forcing it damages door and hardware
  • Do not assume the locks on your new HB home were changed when the previous owner  left. The original key is likely still with a contractor, agent, or prior tenant
  • Do not use the cheapest deadbolt at a hardware store. Grade 3 hardware, the grade most commonly sold at big-box stores without a rating label, is tested to 100,000 cycles and a 2- strike hammer test. A determined adult can defeat one in seconds with a foot
  • Do not install a double-cylinder deadbolt without a clear fire exit plan: a key accessible to all household members at all times.

We just closed on our home near Huntington Beach Central Park and called Golden Locks, Inc. before the moving truck even arrived. They replaced the deadbolts on all three entry doors in under an hour. The tech even checked the door frames before installing, which I never would have thought to ask about. Feels amazing to finally be the only one with a key to my own home. Highly recommend for any new homeowner in HB.

Jennifer W. New Homeowner · Near HB Central Park

My front door deadbolt had been stiff for months and I had to really force it every time. Golden Locks, Inc. came out, replaced it with a Grade 1 deadbolt, and explained the difference in quality compared to what I had. The new lock turns smoothly with just one finger. I had them replace the back door too since it still had the original builder hardware. Totally worth it.

Marcus O. Homeowner · Sunset Beach, HB

I run a small retail shop in Downtown HB and needed better access control without giving keys to every employee. Golden Locks, Inc. installed a commercial-grade deadbolt with a keypad. Managing codes is so much easier now when staff changes. The tech knew exactly which hardware made sense for a shop and didn’t try to upsell anything. Professional, fast, fair price I’ll be calling them for my next location too.

Common Deadbolt Situations in Huntington Beach

Here are the most common situations where Huntington Beach residents and property owners call us for deadbolt installation help.
New Homeowner Move-In

You just closed on a home in HB and have no idea how many copies of the current key exist; a previous owner, a real estate agent, and contractors may all have one. We install fresh deadbolts on every entry door before anything is moved in, so you hold the only working key

Rental Property Turnover

Own a rental near the HB pier, along Beach Blvd, or in a Bolsa Chica duplex? Rekeying between tenants costs less than a replacement and takes 15 minutes per cylinder. We rekey every cylinder on a single visit and set up a master key so you retain access without holding a copy of the tenant's key

Break-In Attempt Repair

A failed break-in attempt almost always damages the strike plate and jamb more than the deadbolt; the door splits at the jamb before the deadbolt gives way. We replace the deadbolt, anchor the strike plate deep into the structural framing, and check the jamb for damage so the repair is complete, not cosmetic

Vacation Rental Security

PCH beachfront rentals, Main Street Airbnbs, and short-term rental properties in Huntington Harbour need deadbolts rated for high daily use and easy rekeying between guest stays. We install Grade 2 or Grade 1 deadbolts for turnover volume and can pair them with a smart keypad so guest codes expire at checkout without a physical rekey

Coastal Salt Air Corrosion

Properties along PCH, Huntington Harbour, and Seacliff experience faster lock corrosion from salt air than inland HB homes; pins seize and the throw stiffens within two to three years on unprotected hardware. We replace corroded deadbolts with hardware rated for the coastal environment: corrosion-resistant finishes that hold up to PCH and Huntington Harbour salt air.

HOA and Shared Entry Security

HOA-managed communities in Seacliff, gated neighbourhoods off Edwards St, and condo complexes along Beach Blvd need commercial-grade deadbolts on shared entry doors that survive daily traffic from multiple residents. We install ANSI Grade 1 deadbolts on shared entries and set up a keyed hierarchy so the HOA holds building access without distributing individual keys

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does deadbolt installation cost in Huntington Beach?
Single-cylinder deadbolt installation: $95–$175, hardware included. Double-cylinder: $110-$195. High-security Grade 1 (Schlage B62N, Kwikset 980, Medeco): $150-$275. Deadbolt rekeying: $65-$120 per cylinder. Flat rates confirmed before dispatch. Door prep work is quoted separately before starting. After-hours calls carry a $25-$50 supplement.
ANSI Grade 2 suits most HB residential exterior doors and exceeds residential building code requirements. Grade 1 is the right call for hightraffic doors, vacation rentals, and any door where a burglar could reach the thumb-turn through a nearby window. Grade 3 is rated to 100,000 cycles and a 2-strike test only; commonly sold without a rating label and not suitable for any exterior door
Rekey when the cylinder is mechanically sound and you just need to invalidate old keys. Replace when the cylinder is worn, the throw is stiff, the housing is damaged, or you want to upgrade grades. We assess on-site and tell you which applies; you will not be pushed into a replacement if a rekey will do the job
Single deadbolt on a prepped door: 30-45 minutes. Full home across three to four doors: under two hours. Rekeying a single cylinder: 15-20 minutes. We carry hardware for same-day installation; most HB deadbolt jobs are completed the same day as the call
A double-cylinder deadbolt is right when glass is within reach of the interior thumb-turn; a burglar can break that glass and open a single-cylinder deadbolt in seconds. The trade-off is fire safety: a key is required to exit. We confirm a fire exit protocol: a key accessible to every household member at adult height, without searching
Not necessarily. A stiff deadbolt is usually worn internal pins, a shifted door misaligning the throw with the strike plate, or coastal salt air corrosion in the cylinder bore. We diagnose on-site. Worn pins can be rekeyed with new pin stacks. A shifted door needs a strike plate adjustment. Corrosion requires a cylinder replacement with a coastal-rated finish.
