Lock repair is the diagnosis and correction of a lock that is failing, such as a key that sticks, a deadbolt that won’t throw or a latch that won’t catch. Most broken locks don’t need replacing. They need the real cause found and fixed.
Huntington Beach is hard on hardware. Salt air in Huntington Harbour and along Pacific Coast Highway corrodes cylinders, sand from Bolsa Chica works into keyways, and humidity swells doors until a bolt that glided in spring grinds by late summer. Golden Locks, Inc. has repaired locks for Huntington Beach homes, rentals and businesses since 2008 and holds California Locksmith License #LCO4446.
If a lock can’t be saved, we show you the failed part and explain why before we quote a lock change. If the lock works but the keys are the problem, a rekey costs less than new hardware.
Three different jobs get mixed up under the word repair. Repair restores a lock that is failing mechanically. A rekey is for a lock that works but answers to the wrong keys. A lock change is for a lock that is cracked, forced, corroded through or too cheaply made to hold. We diagnose first and recommend the smallest job that solves the problem.
How a lock repair visit works:
Why Huntington Beach locks need repair sooner. Salt air is a slow solvent that roughens pins and weakens springs in Huntington Harbour, along Pacific Coast Highway and within a few blocks of the water. Sand from Bolsa Chica and the Main Street beaches grinds inside keyways, and humidity swells doors until bolts drag. Maintenance beats replacement here. A dry lubricant twice a year and a quick look the first week a key argues will save most locks.
A lock that won’t lock at all, or a cylinder damaged in an attempted break-in, can’t wait for next week. Our emergency locksmith page covers urgent repairs.

A sticking or jammed lock usually means worn pins, a worn key, sand in the keyway or early corrosion. A cleaning and pin service often fixes it. Ignore it and it becomes a house lockout.
Often the lock is fine and the door has moved. Sagging hinges or a shifted frame push the bolt out of line. We correct hinge, strike and bolt alignment.
A worn latch bolt, a dead plunger or a strike plate set too far away. A door that pops open is a door that isn't locked.
The tailpiece or cam that links the cylinder to the bolt has snapped or slipped. Usually a contained parts repair with the cylinder unharmed.
Worn set screws, spindles or spring cassettes on high-use doors in rentals, shops and offices. We replace the worn internals so it stays level.
Stop and leave the piece alone. Our broken key extraction tools remove most fragments without damaging the cylinder.
