Gun Safe Installation Done Right

An unanchored gun safe is not protection. A burglar can tip it, roll it, or load it into a truck in minutes, even a 400-pound one. Real installation means the right anchor hardware for your specific floor type and the lock verified before we leave. Most HB homes sit on a concrete slab, which takes expansion anchors and through-bolts perfectly. Older post-war homes in Bolsa Chica and Newland have wood subfloors that need lag bolts into floor joists instead. We assess the floor first.  Golden Locks, Inc. has been installing gun safes in Huntington Beach since 2008: in single- family homes in Seacliff and Huntington Harbour, apartments near Beach Blvd, garages along Gothard St, and businesses in the Harbor Blvd corridor. We work on handgun safes, long-gun vaults, wall safes, and floor safes from every major brand. CA Locksmith License #LCO4446, verified through BSIS. Gun Safe Installation Services in Huntington Beach

We handle every type of gun safe job in HB, from a 30-pound bedside pistol safe to a 700-pound rifle vault. Here is what we cover.

Home Gun Safe Installation

Bedroom, closet, garage, or utility room; we position your gun safe where it is easy for you to reach but out of plain sight, then anchor it to the floor or wall so it cannot be moved without power tools. We use expansion anchors and through-bolts on concrete slab floors, and 3/8-inch lag bolts set into floor joists on wood subfloor homes; the right hardware for your specific floor type.

Rifle and Long-Gun Vault Installation

Long-gun vaults run from 200 to over 700 pounds and require proper leveling, floor assessment, and anchoring before they are safe to use; a vault that is not level will have door alignment problems within months. We install 8-gun to 60-gun rifle and shotgun vaults of all brands, level them on your floor type, and anchor them so the door swings clean and the locking bolts engage correctly every time. SERVICE CARD 3 – Wall Safe Installation

Wall Safe Installation

A wall safe fits between standard 16-inch on-centre wall studs, sits flush with the drywall surface, and disappears completely behind a picture frame or mirror, one of the most discreet ways to store a handgun in a Huntington Beach home. We locate the stud bays, check for wiring and plumbing before cutting, fit the safe flush into the opening, and test the lock before we cover it.

Floor Safe Installation

A floor safe set into a concrete slab is the strongest installation available; once it is set and sealed, only the owner with the combination can access it, and there is nothing above the floor surface to grab or pry. We cut the opening in your slab or subfloor, set the safe level, and pour or pack it in tight so the lid sits flush and the lock operates smoothly.

Gun Cabinet Assembly and Anchoring

Gun cabinets arrive flat-packed and must be assembled correctly and anchored to a wall stud to stay upright under load; an unanchored cabinet tips easily and provides no real security. We assemble your cabinet, locate the nearest structural stud, anchor through the back panel with the correct fasteners, and test every latch and lock before we leave.

Safe Relocation and Lock Service

Moving your gun safe to a new room or a new Huntington Beach address requires the right dollies and moving equipment; attempting to move a 300-pound safe without them damages floors, walls, and the safe itself. We also service all gun safe locking systems: biometric scanners, electronic keypads with LaGard and SecuRam locks, S&G combination dials, and key-lock mechanisms, including combination changes and dead battery recovery.

California Gun Storage Law Explained

California has two laws that apply directly to how you store your firearms at home. Here is what they say in plain terms.  CA §25100 — Criminal Storage  Under CA Penal Code §25100, storing a firearm where a child under 18 can access it is a crime, even if the child never touches it. A first offense where a child injures someone can be charged as a felony with up to three years in prison and fines up to $10,000. A properly installed, anchored, and locked gun safe is the clearest way to show you took reasonable steps to prevent access.  CA §23650-Safe Standards  CA Penal Code §23650 sets minimum standards for gun safes sold in California, covering the locking system, plating, hinges, and bolt work. A non-compliant safe must carry a warning label on the front; if yours has that label, it does not satisfy §25100 requirements. We install only §23650-compliant safes and can confirm whether a safe you already own meets the standard.

What You Should Do?

  • Anchor your gun safe before storing anything. An unanchored safe is a box, not security.
  • Have the floor assessed before buying a large safe. A heavy vault on weak wood joists can cause structural damage.
  • Use a dehumidifier rod inside the safe. HB coastal humidity and salt air cause rust on gun steel. An Eva-Dry or Peet rod costs about $20 and protects a collection worth thousands.
  • Keep the combination or PIN to two people maximum.
  • Store firearms unloaded whenever the safe is not being actively accessed.
  • Test the lock every three to six months. A dead keypad battery is our most common service call.

What You Should Avoid?

  • Do not buy a safe before measuring the entry path. A vault that will not fit through the bedroom door stays in the garage.
  • Do not leave the safe unanchored in the garage. It is visible, accessible, and easy for a burglar to move.
  • Do not drill or force a safe open. You will damage the relocker, turning a simple lockout into a costly opening job.
  • Do not place the safe near a water heater or laundry area. Condensation corrodes gun steel and electronic lock boards.
  • Do not store a safe in direct sunlight. Heat above 125°F damages polymer components in electronic locks.
  • Do not assume a UL RSC rating means CA §23650 compliance. UL covers burglary resistance; §23650 covers firearm-specific safety standards. A safe can pass one and fail the other.

What Our Customers Say

Don’t just take our word for it — hear from the families and businesses we’ve helped. Our commitment to excellence has earned us hundreds of five-star reviews and countless referrals. From emergency situations to planned security upgrades, our customers consistently praise our professionalism, reliability, and fair pricing.

“I bought a Liberty 64-gun safe and the delivery company just dropped it in my garage on a pallet with no guidance. Called Golden Locks and they came out the next morning. The tech checked the concrete slab, drilled proper anchor points, bolted everything down, and tested the lock before leaving. He also pointed out the garage wasn’t the best spot because of humidity near the coast and helped me relocate it inside. That kind of honest advice really stood out. Price matched exactly what I was quoted.”

Brian H. — Seacliff, Huntington Beach

“We live right on the water, so I was concerned about moisture affecting our rifle safe. The technician actually brought it up first, explaining how coastal humidity impacts safes in this area. He installed it using lag bolts into the floor joists, tested everything thoroughly, and even recommended a properly sized dehumidifier rod. You can tell they understand local conditions not just general locksmith work.”

Laura R. — Huntington Harbour, CA

“My safe keypad completely died no lights, nothing and I had firearms locked inside. Golden Locks came out the same day and got it working using the external 9V contact. The tech explained it’s a common issue here because humidity affects the contacts. Took about 20 minutes and cost way less than I expected. He also showed me how to check the battery going forward. Really helpful.”

James P. — Old Town Huntington Beach

Common Gun Safe Situations in Huntington Beach

We handle common gun safe issues in Huntington Beach, including lockouts, forgotten combinations, and safe malfunctions, with secure and professional service.
New Firearm, Kids in the House

California Penal Code §25100 applies the moment a firearm enters a home where a child under 18 lives or visits. We install same-day: compliant safe, correctly anchored, lock tested before we leave.

Safe Delivered, Cannot Move It

Your Liberty safe arrived on a pallet in the garage and the delivery crew left it there. We have the dollies and furniture sliders to move it through hallways, position it in the right room, and anchor it to the floor.

Keypad Dead, Cannot Get In

No lights, no beeps on your keypad. A 9-volt contact at the base of the exterior panel usually fixes a dead battery on the spot. If not, we diagnose and open non-destructively on most LaGard, SecuRam, and S&G locks.

Collector Moving to New Home

Your rifle vault is 600 pounds and most movers will not touch it. We unbolt it, move it with the right equipment, and re-anchor it at the new address the same day.

Coastal Home, Gun Collection

Huntington Harbour, Seacliff, and PCH beachfront properties have higher indoor humidity than inland HB. Salt air corrodes firearm steel and electronic lock contacts. We install the safe and recommend the right dehumidifier rod for your safe's cubic footage.

Inherited Safe, Combination Unknown

You’ve acquired a gun safe from a previous owner or family member but don’t have the combination. We verify ownership, then safely open the unit using non-destructive methods whenever possible, and reset it with a new secure code.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does gun safe installation cost in Huntington Beach?
Floor anchor for a small handgun safe: $95-$150. Full-size rifle vault installation: $150-$275 depending on floor type. Wall safe installation with drywall cutting: $175-$325. Floor safe in concrete: $250-$450. All prices are flat rates confirmed before dispatch; anchor hardware is included. Labour-only rates apply if you supply your own safe.
CA Penal Code §25100 requires firearms be stored so children under 18 cannot access them. An unanchored safe can be tipped or pried and does not meet that standard. An anchored, locked safe meeting §23650 requirements is the clearest legal defense; we install to that standard and can confirm whether your existing safe qualifies.
It depends on your floor type. Most Huntington Beach homes are built on concrete slab; expansion anchors and through-bolts set into concrete provide the strongest possible hold and are our standard install for HB homes. Homes with wood subfloors need 3/8-inch lag bolts driven into floor joists at the right spacing; a lag bolt that misses a joist provides almost no resistance. We assess your floor before recommending hardware so you get an anchor that actually works.
Hold a fresh 9-volt battery against the two contacts at the base of the external keypad; this powers the lock long enough to enter your code. If that fails, check for a hidden key slot behind a cover panel on the exterior. If neither works, call us; we open most LaGard, SecuRam, and S&G locks non-destructively without drilling.
Yes. We use wall-stud anchoring for larger safes and platform anchoring for lighter units in apartments. Biometric bedside safes and wall safes are the best options where a freestanding vault is not practical. We confirm method and hardware before starting so there is no damage to floors or walls.
That depends on the specific safe. CA §23650 sets minimum standards for gun safes sold in California, covering the locking system, hinges, plating, and bolt work. A non-compliant safe must carry a warning label on the front; if yours has it, it does not satisfy §25100 requirements. We assess your safe on-site and tell you whether it qualifies.
